' The work of Phil Morsman has always been a great delight. It is enormously soothing simply standing in front of his deceptively simple canvases, enjoying the effects of his colours and shapes. There is a depth in the paintings that makes them almost sculptural. His more recent have taken the three-dimensional a stage further. The bright colours and contrasting geometrical shapes often suggest a tension between the spontaneity of creativity and the more controlled elements of craftmanship. Whatever goes into them, the result is stunningly beautiful and serene. The works have what could be called a " secular spirituality " which greatly moved this normally sceptical cynic.'
